Bulacan gov supports COMELEC's "Walkah-Walkah"

CITY OF MALOLOS – Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado bear out his support to the “Walka-Walka,” a walk caravan launched by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) to raise public awareness on voters’ registration under the new biometrics system held at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium, Friday morning.

“Kinikilala po natin ang kahalagahan ng aktibidad ng COMELEC upang mapaigting ang kaalaman ng publiko at suporta sa bagong voters’ registration at validation ng kanilang biometrics upang makaboto sa darating na 2016 national elections,” Alvarado said.

According to COMELEC Spokesperson James Jimenez, the campaign which is anchored to the theme “Step Juan para sa Mulat na Botante” is a a Luzon-wide walking expedition from Laoag, Ilocos Norte to Matnog, Sorsogon to persuade millions of new eligible voters to register, and registered voters to submit their biometric requirements in order to vote in the 2016 national elections.

“This is the campaign of the COMELEC to encourage the public to register and accomplish their biometrics data so they can participate in the May 2016 national and local polls,” said Jimenez.

He also said that there are 9.6 million people who have not prescribed their biometrics data and will be disenfranchised in the May 2016 election if they do not complete their records.

Further, Walkah-Walkah is among COMELEC’s latest programs, which he said is the result of an evolution of technological advancement of a quick and improved polls and the use of social media, in spreading electoral information to the public.

“Mahalaga po ang bawat isang boto ng mamamayan. Kaya mahalaga na tayo ay tumalima sa kampanya ng COMELEC at ng pamahalaang panlalawigan na magparehistro upang magamit natin ang karapatan nating makaboto dahil ginagawa ng pamahalaan ang lahat ng paraan upang mapahusay ang proseso ng mas credible na resulta ng halalan,” the governor said.

The Walkah-Walkah campaign which has started on May 6, 2014 will continue from Bicol to Visayas in September and then to Mindanao while the registration period will last until October 31, 2015.###
