CITY OF MALOLOS – In one with the whole country, the Provincial Government of Bulacan will conduct a tree planting activity in Ipo Dam Watershed in Sitio Bitbit, San Mateo, Norzagaray, Bulacan tomorrow, June 25, 2014 at 7:00 in the morning as part of the Arbor Day or Tree Planting Day celebration.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado declared under EO No. 2014-7 that the said date be a public working holiday in order to ensure the participation of different sectors of society.

According to Bulacan Environment and Natural Resources Office, DENR Sec. Ramon Paje donated 300,000 pieces of assorted seedlings for Arbor Day through the efforts of Congresswoman Marivic R. Sy-Alvarado of the first district.

“Bawat bayan magtatanim din sa kani-kanilang identified na lugar, ‘yung mga itatanim nila manggagaling din sa Kapitolyo at kung magdadagdag pa sila from their own funds,” Elizabeth Apresto, Officer in Charge of BENRO explained.

Also, RA 10176 or Arbor Day Act of 2012 emphasized that every able-bodied citizens, who are at least 12 years of age, shall be required to plant one tree every year.

Meanwhile, the BENRO is continuously cleaning canals and creeks all over the province and conducting tree planting activities on embankments to serve as protection from soil erosion as part of the observance of Environment Month. ###
