Bulacan gov leads municipal mayors in commitment signing for disaster preparedness

CITY OF MALOLOS – In a bid to strengthen disaster preparedness in Bulacan, the Provincial Government of Bulacan headed by Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado in cooperation with the Office of Civil Defense Region III led the municipal mayors together with the members of the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Councils in the signing and declaration of commitment of Local DRRM Councils.

The signing and declaration of commitment took place during the Provincial Summit 2014 on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management yesterday at The Pavilion, Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center in this city.

Alvarado said that by working together and sincere communication, a lot can be accomplished and solved.

“There will be other disasters, no doubt. And today, we seek to re-ignite that spirit of direct involvement, to recapture the energy that comes when people are helping because that's what they want to do, and to encourage people to care about each other. Working together, with good faith and earnest dialogue, I believe we can reconcile vitality with environmental protection,” said Alvarado.

The governor also emphasized that the commitment of local chief executives to work hand in hand with the national government and its stakeholders will prevent and mitigate any adverse impacts of hazards and disasters in their communities.

Aside from the signing of commitment, participants of the said summit acquired additional knowledge on disaster preparedness through the topics that were discussed including LCE’s Roles and Responsibilities in DRRM, State of DRRM in the Province/Best Practices, Institutionalization of LDRRMO’s, Joint Memorandum Circular on the Allocation and Utilization of LDRRMF, Guidance on the Utilization of LDRRM Fund, Hydro-Met Hazards and Warning System, Local Geological Hazards, Earthquake-induced Landslides/Multi-hazard Maps, Project NOAH, National/Regional Perspective Regarding TY Yolanda, Gaining Resiliency of the Province through Mitigative Measures, Contingency Planning/Introduction to RDNA/PDNA and Full Implementation of Smart Info Board.

Also, the participants were asked to come up for the formulation of action plans.

Meanwhile, Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Region 3 Chairman and Office of the Civil Defense Region 3 Regional Director Josefina T. Timoteo graced the event to give support to the province along with Vice Governor Daniel Fernando, Board Member Therese Cheryll Ople, Guiguinto Mayor Ambrosio Cruz, Jr., Hagonoy Mayor Raulito Manlapaz, Pulilan Mayor Vicente Esguerra, Sr., Obando Mayor Edwin Santos, Calumpit Mayor Jessie De Jesus, Bocaue Vice Mayor Dioscoro Juan, Jr. and Malolos Vice Mayor Gilbert Gatchalian. ###
