CITY OF MALOLOS - The Gawad Saka: Parangal sa mga Natatanging Magsasaka at Mangingisda 2014 recognized two Bulakenyos and two organizations in the province that excelled in the field of agriculture in the recently concluded Regional Awarding Ceremony held at the Mini Convention Heroes Hall, City of San Fernando, Pampanga.

Among the winners were Arcadio F. De Belen for Outstanding Large Animal Raiser; Benito F. Sagala and family for the Outstanding Farm Family category; Catmon Multi-purpose Cooperative as Outstanding Small Farmer’s Association/Cooperative; and Provincial Agricultural and Fishery Council (PAFC) for being awarded as the outstanding council.

The Provincial Agriculture Office said that De Belen won because of his achievement from having two milking cows to 60 heads today, he also owns 15 heifers, 50 swine and two organic pigs and five carabaos. While the Sagala family was awarded due to their unwavering support to each other, from the head of the family to the youngest son contributing to their agriculture businesses such as rice, Agri Supply Store, and livestocks.

The Catmon Multi-purpose Cooperative was awarded due to their success in growing their P12,500 primary capital to P180,000 million that helped 4,386 members.

Further, PAFC-Bulacan was recognized for their efforts to create Municipal Agricultural and Fishery Council (MAFC) and City Agricultural and Fishery Council (CAFC) in the 21 municipalities and three cities of Bulacan.

Together with Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado and Provincial Agriculturist Ma. Gloria Carrillo, De Belen received P30,000 while the other three awardees received P50,000 each and a plaque of appreciation each.

Under Secretary for Operations (Livestock) Jose Reaño, the event’s guest speaker, said that winning starts with a burning desire to succeed.

“Sa inyo po nakikita ko po ‘yung focus, ‘yung pagtingin sa isang direksyon. Nandoon po ang positive thinking sa inyo na magagawa ninyo ‘to. Ang pinakamahalaga siguro na ginawa ninyo ay meron kayong purpose in life kaya kayo nagtatagumpay,” Reaño said.

On the other hand, Regional Technical Director (RTD) for Operations and Extension of Regional Field Unit III Crispulo G. Bautista strongly believes that the Regional winners have a big chance to bag the awards in the national level as they represent the region.

“Confident po ako na ‘yung ating mga awardee na siyang nominees natin for the national award, if not all majority ay mananalo, sa kadahilanan na ang Region 3 po ay talagang food basket ng ating nasyon. Tayo po ang number one sa production ng palay, we contribute 18.5% ng national production, sa livestock tayo po ang number 1 in terms of production, sa high values Region 3 is still the number one producers of onion. Magkita-kita po tayo sa awarding for the national winners,” Bautista said. ###
