CITY OF MALOLOS – Provincial Government of Bulacan officials together with its department heads and employees formed a symbolic awareness ribbon to show its support to the Department of Health’s (DOH) campaign in preventing the spread of Human Immunodeficiency Virus infection and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV and AIDS) during the Provincial AIDS Candlelight Memorial Day held this morning at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium.

The said activity calls to stop discrimination and to give hope to people who have been affected by HIV and AIDS.

In support to the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial Day on May 17, 2015, the PGB has already expressed its full support to improve the HIV response including the UNAIDS Strategy of Getting to Zero: Zero AIDS related deaths, Zero new HIV infections through continuous encouragement of the public to practice DOH’s “ABCDE” awareness campaign or the Abstinence, Being faithful, Correct and consistent use of condoms, Don’t use drugs and Early detection.
Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said that the best way to facilitate prevention and treatment to the pandemic disease is for the people to be more conscious and cautious of their health and be aware of the HIV transmission and acquisition.

“We must always be alert, health conscious, observe proper hygiene and clean leaving,” the governor said adding that the Provincial Public Health Office is always hands on in terms of prevention and control of the said disease.
For his part, Vice Gov. Daniel R. Fernando said “let us all fight the spread of the disease by getting the right information and eliminate discrimination to those people living with HIV. Huwag natin silang ikutya, bagkus atin silang intindihin at bigyang pagsuporta na sila ay mayroon pa ring karapatan na mabuhay ng normal.”

DOH Region III Director Leonita Gorgolon also joined the Bulakenyos in the candle light ceremony and expressed her support and admiration to the PPHO and to the Provincial AIDS Council for continuously crafting approaches to make the information dissemination campaign more effective to attain the Millennium Development Goal 6.

According to the latest report of the National Epidemiology Center (NEC) from January to December 2014, there were 198 individuals diagnosed with HIV and 24 of them are positive with AIDS.
