CITY OF MALOLOS – The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region III with the cooperation of the Provincial Government of Bulacan changes the mindset of the Bulakenyo youths from ‘Me’ to ‘We’ in dealing with disasters during the Operation Listo WEmboree, a disaster resiliency camp from June 10-11, 2015, held at the Bulacan Sports Complex in this city.

With the theme “Changing the Mindset from ME to WE,” the two-day camp dubbed as WEmboree highlighted the importance of disaster risk and reduction measures, adapting to rapid climate change and the role of the youth in building disaster resilient communities.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said that the event tested and improved the readiness and technicality of the local government units in the province on responding to calamities especially nowadays that we are threatened with the possible occurrence of powerful storms and earthquake that could cause major destruction not only in the province, but in the whole country.

The governor, who is also the chairman of the Regional Development Council in Central Luzon, also said that every Bulakenyo should be involved in disaster preparedness, communication and response to prevent massive destruction and to save lives.

“Together, we will create disaster-resilient communities through our cooperation and mindset of bayanihan na mayroong tamang paghahanda at tamang pag-aksyon sa anumang uri ng kalamidad na posibleng tumama sa ating lalawigan,” said Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Felicisima Mungcal, in behalf of the governor.

DILG Bulacan Director Florida Dijan, who is also the Commander of the Provincial Incident Management Team also encourages other Bulakenyos to be aware, be systematic and show disaster preparedness efforts to respond properly before, during and after hazardous events.

DILG, PDRRMO and Red Cross of the Philippines also provided different camp activities about creative messaging, resource mobilization, disaster response, rehabilitation and recovery to the participants who are mostly composed of youth leaders and volunteers from 21 towns and three cities in the province.

They also received Operation Listo: Disaster Preparedness Manuals and certificate as part of their involvement in the activities that intensified their disaster preparedness.

Prior to this, DILG Region III also provided Disaster Preparedness Manuals to the PDRRMO for the preparation of the local communities in cases of typhoons and floods that may occur within areas of responsibility and to ensure the safety and resiliency of the Bulakenyos.###
