CITY OF MALOLOS – The province of Bulacan continues to soar high and reap recognitions after being awarded as the “most business-friendly local government unit”, province category level 1, during the 41st Philippine Business Conference and Expo at the Marriott Grand Ballroom, Newport City Complex, Pasay City, Tuesday night.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado received the award from Atty. Miguel B. Varela, chairman of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce Inc. and Alfredo M. Yao, President of the PCCI, during the event attended by President Benigno S. Aquino III and more than 1,000 business leaders all over the Philippines and foreign delegations from various parts of the world.

With this year’s theme, One. Global. Filipino: Synergies in Partnerships for Global Competitiveness, the PCCI said that Bulacan is fast emerging as the “new Mecca” of investments in the Philippines and one of the “well-oiled” engines of growth in the country because of the dynamism of its hardworking provincial and local leaders.

In his speech, President Aquino said, “When more of our countrymen are able to earn a decent living, it also means they are more empowered consumers who have a clear path to progress. It follows that they have a greater capacity to avail of the goods and services offered by companies, which consequently allows our companies—and our economy-to grow.”

The chief executive also said that he is very confident that with the leadership of hardworking provincial executives, like the rest of Filipinos all over the world, business groups will do their part to ensure that the Philippines rises to greater heights.

“The world has already begun witnessing what the Filipino is capable of, and I am convinced that, if we continue working together, we can show them even more of our boundless potential, and ultimately prove that nothing is impossible to a united Philippine nation,” Aquino said.

For his part, the Bulacan governor said that it is great pride and honour to be given the said award because Bulacan was the only province that was adjudged as “most business-friendly” province in the country by the PCCI.
“This recognition alone will further boost the credentials of Bulacan in attracting more foreign and domestic investments,” Alvarado said.

He also said that the socio-economic boom being experienced in Bulacan is the fruit of the various programs being implemented in line with the visions of President Aquino in erasing the image of the Philippines as the “sick old man of Asia” into the “favourite darling in Asia” in terms of economic stability.

Last August, Alvarado and Vice Gov. Daniel Fernando also received the “Seal of Good Local Governance” from the Department of Interior and Local Governance and Best Performing LGU Award in Cooperative Development in Central Luzon from the Gawad Parangal for Cooperatives 2015.
