CITY OF MALOLOS – Liberal Party Presidential bet Manuel “Mar” Roxas III together with Bulacan Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado and Vice Gov. Daniel R. Fernando visited flooded areas in Bulacan to aid almost 70,000 affected families that suffered massive flooding due to the continuous release of excess water of the province’s three major dams—Angat, Ipo and Bustos dams for the past six straight days.

Roxas accompanied by Alvarado personally distributes 18, 005 relief goods to thousands of Bulakenyos in different barangays in the towns of Calumpit and Hagonoy and even admired the strength and overflowing Filipino spirit of the affected families that even though still flooded and it’s already Christmas season, are still hoping and enjoying what they have.

“Ang Pilipino naman lalo’t higit ang mga Bulakenyo ay matibay at hindi sumusuko sa kahit anong hamon. Narito tayo upang bigyan ng tulong ang mga kababayan nating nangangailangan,” Roxas said.

Prior to this, Alvarado said that the Provincial Government through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office has been exerting coordinated response efforts through rescue and relief operations in different areas in the province that were greatly affected by the alleged irresponsible release of water from the dams at the height of the onslaught of the back floods induced by Typhoon Nona.

Meanwhile, the National Power Corporation has stopped the release of water in three dams in the province because of the governor’s plea to discontinue releasing big volume of waters from their dams because it will aggravate the flooding wreaking havoc in Calumpit, Hagonoy and some parts of Paombong and Pulilan.

“Huwag na sila sanang magpawala ng maraming tubig dahil marami sa ating mga kababayan ang lubog na lubog na sa baha. Huwag naman nilang hayaan na magpasko ang mga Bulakenyo na lubog sa baha,” the governor said.

As of now, Ipo Dam measures 101.10 meters, Bustos Dam is 17.53 meters while the water level of Angat Dam measures 215.00 meters.

Morover, the damages to fisheries was estimated to reach 26,152,285.00 while damages to rice and vegetable crops was pegged at 28,753, 565.03 or a total of 54,905,850.03.
