CITY OF MALOLOS – The game is now officially on for thousands of young athletes from different parts of Central Luzon to win and represent the region in the Palarong Pambansa 2016 as the Department of Education (DepEd) Region III together with the Provincial Government of Bulacan ignited the urn of sportsmanship that signified the opening of the Central Luzon Regional Athletic Association (CLRAA) Meet 2016 held in Bulacan Sports Complex in this city, Sunday afternoon.

Bulacan Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado together with the representatives from DepEd Region III welcomed almost 10,000 young athletes from 18 schools divisions in Central Luzon and already congratulated them for being part of the competition, which is one of the biggest dreams of every aspiring national athlete.

The governor, who is also the Chairman of Regional Development Council in Central Luzon, said that the annual sports event is not only the breeding grounds of the nation’s future sports heroes but also the greatest opportunity for the participants to enhance their athletic skills.

“Tandaan ninyo na sa alinmang labanan, ang tunay na tagumpay ay sinusukat ng kung paano natin nahigitan ang ating sariling performance at ang pagkatalo ay hindi kabiguan kung tinanggap nang maluwag sa kalooban at may pagpapakumbaba,” Alvarado said.

The governor also stated that development of moral character, personal discipline, civic conscience, and athletic efficiency is an underlying goal and principle of every sports competition so that young people can be trained at an early age to responsibly execute the duties and obligations of a law-abiding Filipino citizen.

Meanwhile, Senator Teofisto “TG” Guigona III, the guest speaker of the event, said that through self-trust and sportsmanship, everyone can be a strong foundation towards a progressive and united country.

“Sa sports o sa anumang larangan ng buhay, kung gusto mong manalo, kung gusto mong maging champion, dalawang bagay lang ang mahalaga, ang tiwala at mabuting kaibigan. Kasi kung gusto mong manalo, kailangan marunong kang magtiwala at pagkatiwalaan dahil iyan ang sangkap sa pagbuo ng isang matatag na komunidad, ng isang matatag na bansang nagkakaisa,” the senator said.

Guingona also encouraged everyone especially the young athletes in the competition to trust themselves, build a strong team foundation and achieve their goals and dream to become an inspiration and pride of the country in the future.

Meanwhile, DepEd Region III OIC Director Malcom Garma expressed his gratitude to the PGB for its support to the competition as the host venue and encouraged the coaches and participants to enjoy their respective events including baseball, swimming, basketball, volleyball, tennis, taekwondo, olympics, billiards and other sports events that will demonstrate camaraderie and friendship among them.

The said annual sports meet is on going at the province of Bulacan form February 8-15 with the objectives of creating strong camaraderie and sportsmanship among the young athletes in Central Luzon that will represent the region in Palarong Pambansa 2016.
