CITY OF MALOLOS – After six weeks of Tuberculosis Mass Screening in Bulacan Provincial Jail, the Provincial Government of Bulacan assures a complete treatment to those who were identified with TB during the Turn-over Ceremony and Presentation of Accomplishments held at the BPJ in this city, Friday morning.

With the theme, “TB ay Tuldukan, Baga ni Kakosa Ating Alagaan,” Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said the activity marked another milestone in the province’s achievements with regard to the control and elimination of TB.

“Naging mabunga at matibay ang ating pakikipagsanib puwersa sa iba’t ibang ahensya at samahan at umaasa tayo na magiging tuluy-tuloy ito hanggang sa tuluyan nang mawakasan ang TB na isa sa nagpapahirap sa maraming mga Pilipino. Sisiguraduhin natin na sapat ang suplay ng gamot para mapagaling lahat ng nakitang may TB,” Alvarado said.

Dr. Jose Ezra Rostrata, USAID-IMPACT Project North Luzon Team Area Facilitator, shared the efforts made during the mass screening duration such as advocacy planning, capacity building and social mobilization, orientation, and the screening proper which includes x-ray, sputum collection and Gene Xpert test up to the enrollment and treatment.

The mass screening that started last September 13, 2016 catered to the entire population of the jail including the detainees, jail guards and administrative and clinic staff.

BPJ Nurse Joselito Cruz said that out of 3, 367 who were screened, 114 tested positive with TB.

“At present may 129 kami na ginagamot kasama na ‘yung mga bago, 125 dito mga lalaki at apat naman ‘yung babae. Simula 2014, may mahigit 60 na ang napagaling namin at magpapatuloy ‘to hanggang mapagaling silang lahat,” Cruz said.

Asst. Dir. Louella Estember, Department of Health-Regional Office 3, said that identifying TB patients in jail is a big step in preventing the spread of the disease because if left untreated, will endanger more people in the community.

“True to the catchphrase of Pres. Duterte that is ‘All for Health towards Health for All’, ipinakita po natin ang pakikiisa at pagkakaisa para malabanan ang TB. Kung hindi nalaman na may TB dito, ang nahahawa po ng isang tao ay 10 sa isang taon kaya ito po ay isang magandang proyekto,” Estember said.

The project was made possible through the efforts of the Department of Health-Regional Office 3, USAID-IMPACT North Luzon Team Project headed by Mona Lisa Morales, Philippine Business for Social Progress, Global Fund and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
