Nipa hut made of singkaban wins in Bahay Kubo, Bahay Gulay

CITY OF MALOLOS – The nipa hut made out of singkaban by the City Agriculturist and Fishery Council of Malolos toppled other entries and bagged the first place in the awarding ceremony of “Bahay Kubo, Bahay Gulay” held in front of Gusaling Gat Blas Ople, Mini Forest, Capitol Compound in this city yesterday.

In the competition organized by the Provincial Agriculture Office, the judges were amazed with the singkaban-made bahay kubo that was assembled without the use of nails and wires and was adorned with almost all varieties of vegetables that added additional charm to the entry.

Aside from various vegetables, they also decorated their hut with different seafoods like tinapang bangus and small fishes as well as atsarang Dampalit, different varieties of rice, and poultry products like egg.

The said entry got a grade of 89.67 and received P30,000 cash incentive and certificate of recognition.

Landing on the second spot was the entry of Patindig Araw Producers Cooperative of San Ildefonso which garnered a grade of 85.33 because of their chock-full nipa hut entry wherein almost all kinds of agriculture crops were displayed. They received P20,000 and certificate of recognition.

The BUSPAN Irrigators Association of Bustos won the third place and got an 83.67 because of their complete arrangement and decoration of their entry. They received P10,000 and certificate of recognition.

Meanwhile, the entries of Sto Niño Farmers Association of Plaridel and San Rafael Vegetable Growers Association of San Rafael each received P2,000 consolation prize.

The winners were judged according to the following criteria: design concept-30%, construction-30%, materials used-15%, degree of participation and cooperation-15%, and overall impact-20% for a total of 100%.

Prior to this, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado and guest speakers Undersecretary Evelyn Laviña of the Department of Agriculture and Director Judith Angeles of the Department of Trade and Industry-Region 3 led the joint opening program of “Bahay Kubo, Bahay Gulay” and “Tatak Singkaban ng Central Luzon” as part of the activities in the Singkaban Festival 2017.

Laviña said, “ang Bulacan ay may vibrant economy at dahil kalapit lang ang Metro Manila, mayroon kayong huge market para sa mga gulay na produkto gayundin ang mga nasa coastline na mayroong market goers patronizing bangus, tilapia and shells.”

Other participants on the event were farmers, fisherfolks, employees and city and muncipal agriculture officers in the province.
