CITY OF MALOLOS – “We will not get tired in giving warnings to the people who will be affected by the ‘Big One’ or the 7.2 magnitude earthquake”.

This was the message of the Secretary of the Department of National Defense and NDRRMC Chairman Delfin N. Lorenzana, who was the keynote speaker in the 2017 4th Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill held last December 15, 2017 at the CDRRMO ALARM Base, Productivity Center, Brgy. He said that around 50,000 people may die and get injured and 3,000-4,000 from the projected figure will come from Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal, and Laguna.
“Dpat ay mayroon laging nakahandang survival kit na tatagal sa loob ng tatlong araw.”, the secretary added.

DOST-DRRCCA Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Affairs and PHILVOCS Director Usec Dr. Renato U. Solidum, Jr. agreed with the secretary and said that he knew the Province of Bulacan has already been practicing the three essential things needed to do like effective preparedness of all people or large scale disaster preparedness, strengthening infrastructures and organized coordination and communication.

Meanwhile, at exactly 2 pm all the people at the Productivity Center at Brgy. Sapang Paly, City of San Jose Del Monte performed “duck, cover and hold” and conducted rescue operations at the 17 scenarios prepared for the earthquake drill in the said city.

Bulakenyos in other parts of the world participated through uploading their photos or videos doing “duck, cover and hold” using #BidaAngHanda in their social media accounts.

Also, a Press Conference was held between the officials who attended the said drill including Secretary Lorenzana, Usec. Solidum, NDRRMC Executive Director and Civil Defense Administrator Usec. Ricardo B. Jalad, Northern Luzon Commander Lt. Gen. Emmanuel L. Salamat, Civil Defense Regional Director Mario Salazar, Vice Gov. Daniel R.
