CITY OF MALOLOS – Mandated by section 7 of Presidential Decree No.491 (Nutrition Act of the Philippines, 25 June 1974), along with the whole country, Bulacan celebrates Nutrition Month from July 1-31 with its theme, “Sa Pagkaing Tama at Sapat, Wastong Timbang ni Baby ang Katapat”.

This gives emphasis to the importance of complementary feeding as a strategy to avoid malnutrition to babies and toddlers.

According to Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Rowena Joson-Tiongson, a large number of babies with ages six months and above are malnourished due to insufficient food intake, wrong manner of feeding, acquired illnesses and other infections.

Said celebration will comprise of several activities such as song writing contest for volunteer workers , which will relay a message about nutrition, healthy baby contest, Information Forum and Nutri-Parade.

Meanwhile, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said during the weekly flag raising ceremony that he supports the said celebration, saying it’s one of the good ways to help and inform Bulakenyos on how to get apt nutrition for their children.

Moreover, the province will also observe the 32nd National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week from July 17-23, 2010 with it’s theme “Sa Istrukturang Accessible, Lahat ay Able”.

This year’s celebration gives emphasis to a “Barrier-free environment” also known as the Accessibility Law.

Said activities were made possible through the initiatives of the Provincial Government of Bulacan through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, National Nutrition Council and Provincial Committee for the Welfare of Disabled Persons. ###
