CITY OF MALOLOS – Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado found a formidable ally in San Miguel Brewery Inc. (SMB) on his crusade to protect and conserve the environment.
In support of Bulacan’s environment protection program, the SMB., has forged a joint tree planting venture with the Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB).
Alvarado instructed Provincial Administrator Jim Valerio and Provincial Public Affairs Officer Maricel Cruz to prioritize this project and coordinate with the Bulacan Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO) in identifying sites suited for the tree planting activity.
It can be recalled that the governor has earlier issued Executive Order 01-2010 suspending all the permits for quarrying and other mining operations which were previously released by the Bulacan Environment and Natural Resources Office and Governor’s Office that will help conserve and protect the flora and fauna of the province from total devastation.
Employees of the country’s biggest beer company as well as the PGB will plant tree saplings on August 7.
James Anthony Lopez, communications officer of San Miguel Brewery –Polo plant and Greater Manila Area, said the San Miguel Brewery Inc., has designated August 7 this year as the company’s “National Tree Planting Day.”
Lopez said employees from all five local breweries and local sales offices will take part in the tree planting activity with the participation of Bulacan capitol employees.
He said they chose Bulacan as one of the tree planting sites in support of Governor Alvarado’s environment protection program.
Provincial administrator Jim Valerio said the governor has accepted the proposal of San Miguel Brewery during a meeting with SMB representatives led by Lopez on Wednesday.
Valerio, Cruz, and representatives from BENRO hold a round table meeting at the PPAO Friday and discussed possible sites and other matters pertaining to the long-term implementation of the program.###
