Bulacan LGUs work hand in hand to combat meningococcemia

CITY OF MALOLOS The Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB) through its Public Health Office (PHO) steps up, together with the City Health Office, to contain the possible spread of meningococcemia in Bulacan, following a reported case in the City of San Jose Del Monte.

Public Health Officer Dra. Jocelyn Gomez said the province has mobilized volunteers and medical teams to conduct massive info campaign about this disease and its threats to humans.

She also cited significance of disseminating and posting IEC materials at strategic and conspicuous places in school to inform parents and the students about this deadly disease.

The province, together with CHO, also conducted a community assembly at the area to further inform the public and assess the gravity of the situation.

Aside from the infodrive, the CHO is closely monitoring febrile cases among contacts. They have also done disinfection of school classroom, and constantly update the PHO on the status of the family contacts, classmates and nearby households are implemented.

Upon knowledge of the case, officials and staff of San Jose del Monte CHO immediately conducted prophylaxis to 45 classmates of the patient and 55 family contacts and nearby households.

For its part, the PHO also conducted an investigation and validated the received report, provided additional supply of medicines, followed up the result on the laboratory examination conducted at San Lazaro Hospital. To this point, the continue to conduct monitoring and surveillance of contacts and febrile cases in the area.

Meanwhile, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said that the PGB through the PHO will continue to give assistance to the affected area to thwart the spread of this disease and to further prepare the public on proper ways of combating not just meningococcemia but even other contagious and fatal diseases as well. ###
