CITY OF MALOLOS – In observance of the Philippine History Month, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) with the cooperation of the Provincial Government of Bulacan will conduct a symposium on the cultural history of the province on August 15, 2014, 8:00 in the morning at the Marcelo H. Del Pilar Shrine, San Nicolas, Bulakan, Bulacan.

Entitled “Kwentong Bayan: Ang Kultura at Sining ng Lalawigan ng Bulacan sa Gitna ng Himagsikan,” the lecture seminar will be about Kundiman songs, Philippine cuisine, and poetry during the revolutionary years of the Filipinos.

“Isa itong magandang paraan upang patuloy na mabigyang pagpapahalaga ang mayamang kultura na ipinamana ng ating mga ninuno dahil hindi lang tayo kilala sa pagiging makabayan kundi pati sa ating pagpapahalaga sa ating kinamulatan,” Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy- Alvarado said.

According to NHCP Bulacan-Zambales Head Alex Balagtas, the symposium is one of the activities of NHCP for the month-long celebration of History Month that aims to inculcate awareness and appreciation of the history through a seminar for the students and youths.

“Lagi nating itinatatak sa mga kaisipan ng bawat kabataan ang kahalagahan ng ating kasaysayan at kultura dahil ito ang huhubog sa ating lipunan at ang pagkakaroon ng kaalaman ukol sa kasaysayan ang ating tanglaw sa magandang kinabukasan,” Balagtas said.

The historico-cultural activity will feature Ms. Rheeza Santiago-Hernandez, a noted theater personality and culinary expert, who will share her thoughts on the cultural and artistic aspects of the revolution in the country.

Anchored on the theme “Aral ng Kasaysayan, Tanglaw ng Ating Kinabukasan,” the lecture seminar will be attended by the Education, Tourism and Hotel & Restaurant Management students from Bulacan State University-Meneses Campus and Centro Escolar University.

The month of August has been declared "Buwan ng Kasaysayan" under Proclamation No. 339 signed by President Benigno Aquino III to emphasize the most significant turning points in Philippine history. ###
