CITY OF MALOLOS – The Provincial Government of Bulacan will hold its own “simple yet meaningful” celebration of the 118th anniversary of the Philippine National Flag this coming May 30, 2016 at exactly 7:30 in the morning in front of the Capitol Building in this city.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado will lead the celebration that aims to remind Bulakenyos the importance of the national flag which served as an inspiration for the revolutionaries who fought for national freedom.

“Batid nating lahat na isa ang lalawigan ng Bulacan sa walong lalawigan na kumakatawan sa walong sinag ng araw sa ating bandila. Ang ating watawat ang sumasagisag sa ating kalayaan mula sa mahabang panahon na pagkakasadlak sa putik ng pagkakasakop. Nararapat lamang na bigyan natin ito ng pagpupugay at pagpapahalaga bilang pagkilala sa demokrasyang ating tinatamasa,” Alvarado said.

The highlights of the event are the flag raising and wreath laying ceremonies at Gat. Marcelo H. Del Pilar shrine which will be led by Alvarado, Vice Gov. Daniel R. Fernando, and local officials from the 21 towns and three cities of the province.

Meanwhile, the governor encourages the Bulakenyos to display the Philippine Flag at their homes, schools, offices and other establishments in support to the National Flag Day from May 28 to June 12, 2016.

The said observance is in accordance with Executive Order 179 of 1994 ordering for the prominent display of the National Flags.

The present design of the Philippine Flag was designed by Emilio Aguinaldo and sewn by Doña Marcela Agoncillo, Lorenza Agoncillo and Delfina Herbosa de Natividad in Hongkong prior the proclamation of Philippine Independence on June 12, 1898.
