CITY OF MALOLOS - “Every time you make an effort, you make the country proud”.

This was the highlight of Sen. Richard Gordon's message during the opening ceremonies of the Central Luzon Regional Athletic Association (CLRAA) Meet 2017 held at the Bulacan Sports Complex in this city, Sunday afternoon.

"It's not about us. It's about what we do to uplift our country. Today is one of the many days when we define who we are. Hindi lang tayo dapat maging mag-aaral, hindi lang tayo maging atletang maghahakot ng medalya. We come from Central Luzon, cradle of noble heroes, that is what our formers define for us, and we need to create a culture of aiming high just like them," Gordon, who also hails from Central Luzon said.

The senator also said that a man who has seen a long past is capable of seeing a far future.

"Ang atleta walang takot dapat ‘yan, wala sa taas, sa kulay, nasa galing ‘yan, nasa dignity at determination na manalo at kapag natalo, hindi magsasalita ng kung ano kundi bukas ako naman. You have one or several moments of victory or defeat pero ang mahalaga, sinubukan mo," Gordon added.

Meanwhile, Bulacan Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said that education is one of the top priorities of his administration's seven point agenda, and sports is part of it.

"The important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well. Hindi nangangahulugang pagwawagi lamang ang tanging layunin ng ating palaro sapagkat ang pakikibahagi pa lamang dito ay isa ng malaking katagumpayan. Ang pagkatalo ay hindi nangangahulugan ng kabiguan bagkus ay karanasang higit na magpapatibay sa kanyang pagkatao,“Alvarado said.

The CLRAA was formally opened by Alvarado and Mr. Malcom Garma, OIC-Regional Director of Department of Education Region III, which started with a parade of each delegation from the 20 schools divisions.

Also part of the program were the simultaneous raising of delegation banners, lighting of the urn of unity and peace, oath of amateurism and oath of officiating officials.

Moreover, several schools which consisted of San Pedro National High School (NHS), FC Lipana NHS, FVR NHS, Dr. Felipe de Jesus NHS, Sta. Maria NHS and Alex Santos High School showcased their talents in the field demonstration dubbed as Kulturang Bulakeño and fireworks display to entertain the delegates and make their stay in Bulacan a memorable one.

The CLRAA will run until February 10, 2017.
