CITY OF MALOLOS – The entries of the Municipal Agriculture and Fishery Councils (MAFCs) of Calumpit and Santa Maria towns had a steady fight that landed them both on the first spot of Bahay Kubo, Bahay Gulay competition dubbed as Dampang Filipino 2019 held yesterday, in front of Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium here.

Adorned with unhusked rice and different vegetable harvests, the nipa hut of Calumpit fared well with the nipa hut of Santa Maria, which was decorated with curtains made of string beans and other vegetables, resulting to a same score of 90.33% that put them on top of the contenders list and received P20,000 cash prize and certificates of recognition.

Second best on the list of outstanding ornamented nipa huts were Angat Farmers Association from Angat town and San Rafael Vegetable Association of the town of San Rafael wherein they both scored 84.67% and took home P15,000 and certificates of recognition.

With a couple of points behind, entries of the MAFCs of Guiguinto and San Ildefonso towns scored 75%, which placed them both on the third spot with a cash prize of P10,000 and certificates of recognition.

According to Provincial Agriculturist Ma. Gloria Carrillo, the participants built their own nipa huts on the actual area of the competition, a day before the opening last September 9 wherein they were also allowed to sell vegetables and other processed agricultural products.

Meanwhile, Governor Daniel R. Fernando was satisfied with the turnout of the activity because the farmers who participated were not only able to showcase their artistic side, they were also able to gain profit.

“Nakakatuwa na maganda ang kinalabasan ng patimpalak na ito. Hindi lang sa naipakita ang mga produkto ng ating mga magsasaka, nakaubos din sila ng kanilang mga panindang gulay kaya naman nararapat lang na sila ay atin pang suportahan,” Fernando said.

Felix San Jose, MAFC member from Santa Maria, also expressed his gratitude to the Provincial Government of Bulacan for the opportunity given to Bulakenyo farmers.

“Taus-puso po akong nagpapasalamat sa Provincial Government ng Bulacan sa oportunidad na ito para sa mga magsasaka dito sa Bulacan. First time po naming magkaroon ng award at nakatutuwa po dahil hindi mahal ang nagastos namin dahil sariling ani po namin ang ginamit pang disenyo,” San Jose said.
