Monday, 15 November 2010
CITY OF MALOLOS – Ma. Victoria “Marivic” Sy-Alvarado was re-elected as the congressional representative of the first district of Bulacan over her closest opponent, former governor Roberto Pagdanganan in the special election held last Saturday.

The wife of Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado was proclaimed around five in the morning by the Provincial Board of Canvassers, said Provincial Election Supervisor Atty. Sabino Mejarito.

Sy-Alvarado garnered a total of 95,625 votes while Pagdanganan had 41,658 votes. Other four candidates like former Malolos Mayor Danilo Domingo earned 1,032 votes, former first district Rep. Jun Aniag got 400, Tomas Valencia had 271 while Francisco Cruz had 63.

Mejarito said that the voters’ turn out was lower than they expected as only 139,049 out of the total registered voters of 341,368 came out to cast their vote in Saturday’s special polls.

The newly elected congresswoman thanked her provincemates for their continuing trust and support and vowed that she will immediately start working, focusing on her programs for education, health, infrastructure and livelihood in the first district.

“Tigilan na po natin ang pulitika, isang araw lang ‘yan. Tayo’y magtulungan at magsama-sama para sa ikagaganda at ikauunlad ng unang distrito”, said Sy-Alvarado.

Meanwhile, the conduct of the special polls was peaceful and orderly, said Bulacan police director Senior Supt. Fernando Villanueva. ###
