CITY OF MALOLOS – The Provincial Government of Bulacan beefs up its efforts in the fight against Tuberculosis (TB) with a renewed and growing partnership among public and private sectors, says Gov. Wilhelmino Sy- Alvarado in a gathering held August 16, 2010, at the Hiyas Pavillion, in this city.

As part of the provincial celebration of the National Lung Month, Alvarado said this initiative aims to enrich the commitment of support from public sectors through the leadership of local executives and to reinforce collaboration from private agencies and institutions.

The signing of Pledge of Support from the public and private sectors was the highlight of the event. This also launched the partnership between the Provincial Government and Department of Education through the signing of Memorandum of Agreement about the Comprehensive Unified Policy against TB.

Aside from Department of Health, other top officials also took part in the declaration of support including chiefs of hospitals, mayors, municipal health officers, barangay officials and other government agencies.

Other private companies also responded to the call of action to fight TB including Association of Bulacan Medical Society, Philippine Hospital Association, Organization of Family Physicians, Philippine Pharmaceutical Association of the Philippines, and Mercury Drug Corporation.

Prior to the declaration of support, Assistant Regional Dir. Benito Arca of Department of Health presented the TB situation in the Philippines while Provincial Health Officer Dr. Jocelyn Gomez also discussed the efforts of the Provincial Government in eliminating TB in the province.

Meanwhile, Julito Sabornido, deputy leader of USAID-TBLINC gave the guests a better perspective on how the private and public sectors could effectively work together in addressing the local health burden due to Tuberculosis.

Through this partnership, the governor believed that this will intensify the TB Control Program and will give opportunity for each sector to continuously help, educate and update them in the fight against TB.

Last year, the province launched UBOKABULARYO, a cough manner campaign, as part of the health promotion and awareness drive for the prevention and control of TB. ###
