Thursday, 19 August 2010
CITY OF MALOLOS - Six school-based Public Employment and Services Office (PESO) will be established in Bulacan in a bid to prepare college students in the province as they join the labor force and provide them ready access to job opportunites here and abroad.

This resulted after the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement held at the Provincial Governor’s Office, August 13, 2010 between the officials of major colleges and universities and DOLE Reg. Dir. Ernesto Bihis while Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado also graced the signing to vouch his support.

The beneficiaries of this agreement include Centro Escolar University, Baliuag University, University of Regina Carmeli, Bulacan Agricultural State College, Bulacan Polytechnic College and STI College.

In return, the administrators of the said schools vowed to help the Provincial PESO in bringing its services closer to the public, specifically, the graduating students.

The agreement also covers the following areas of collaboration: Partnership in Job Fair conduction, Pre-employment Orientation seminar (PEOS) and Labor Education for Graduating students (LEGS); access in the operation of PhilJobnet in school’s career placement offices; provision of career information and guidance counseling services and the coordinated effort in referral and placement of would be-workers.

Dole Reg. Dir Bihis said that the signing of agreement is not just about being present on that day but is something that is coupled with obligations to sustain the provisions of teh agreement for the benefit of the younger generations.

Meanwhile, for Governor Alvarado, this agreement would somehow pave way for graduating students to realize their dream of securing a job that would suit their qualifications in the future, hence, they will become productive citizens of the province.

Also present in the MOA signing were DOLE Asst. Reg. Dir. Leopoldo de Jesus, Leilani Reynoso of DOLE-Bulacan, Elizabeth Alonzo, PESO Manager in Bulacan.

The idea of school-based PESO was conceived last year. The first beneficiary was Bulacan State University and since its inception, many students have successfully landed a career of their choice through this project. ###
