Bulakenyo farmers, fishermen, to join Singkaban festivities
Tuesday, 07 September 2010
CITY OF MALOLOS – The Provincial Government of Bulacan will spare agrifolks from a day in the field and fishing work to attend this special day for the Bulakenyo farmers and fishermen that topbills the activities for September 13 of the Singkaban Fiesta with the theme livelihood, one of the seven development thrusts pushed by Gov. Wilhlemino M. Sy-Alvarado.

At least 1,000 participants from the agriculture sector are expected to attend the “Araw ng Mga Magsasaka at Mangingisda” at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium.

As part of the continuing tradition of recognizing excellence and drawing inspiration from among the agrifolks, the Provincial Agriculture Office will confer again the Top Yielder Farmers’ Awards for agricultural achievers.

The awardees will be selected based on high yields in agricultural commodities, and through this primary criterion, the farmers are given financial incentives and trophy while more farmers are continuously encouraged to enhance their productivity and profitability.

Aside from the agricultural achiever award, the program organizers also challenged talented farmers and fishermen to join the Folk Media Competition to showcase their talents in singing, dancing, reciting poems and acting, while depicting the prescribed theme in rural setting.

Throughout the years, the folk media competition has been successful in producing indigenous or local source of entertainment that emerged from the town folks or group of people having a common interest in life and merry making. At the same time, organizers believed that it also promotes camaraderie and bayanihan spirit between and among farmers/fisherfolks and agricultural technicians.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Tourism Office vows to offer another set of audience a different treat, by turning the simple night into a night of glamour and class through the Kasalang Bulakenyo Fashion Show.

This event will showcase the classic, distinct and impressive designs of wedding gowns by notable Bulakenyo Fashion designers and the Disenyong Pandi group.

Organizers said that this fashion show is beyond the usual show because elected lady officials and first lady of top officials from Bulacan will serve as models while they strut the fabulous creations in the runway of the Hiyas Pavilion in this city. ###
