CITY OF MALOLOS- Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado directed the Bulacan Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO), Wednesday, to haul the abandoned tea-rose marbles seen in the vicinity of Brgy. Sibul in San Miguel, Bulacan.

“This is to ensure safety of the people residing near the area, to protect the public from flooding and accident that can be caused by such risk,” Alvarado explained.

Ten of the abandoned marbles found along the roads and streams were immediately transported to the Provincial Engineering Office’s (PEO) compound at Brgy. Tabang in Guiguinto.

Officials estimated the hauled 30 cubic meters volume of tearose marbles to cost $36,000 or equivalent to P1.5 M.

Meanwhile, Atty. Rustico de Belen, head of BENRO, said the marble blocks will temporarily stay at the PEO compound for safekeeping until the rightful claimant presents proper documents.

“Any lawful claimant is given two weeks from October 21 to November 4, 2010 to file his/her claim at the Office of the Governor through BENRO and if no claimant with proper documents comes after the given dates, Atty. De Belen said they will ask the Provincial Legal Office to file a forfeiture case for the abandoned tearose marbles in favor of the Provincial Government.###
