Wednesday, 06 April 2011
CITY OF MALOLOS- Bulakenyo youth will now have a greater opportunity for education after the Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB) thru Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado directed to give additional P500 for the PGB scholars.

From P5,000 financial aid for academic scholars and P2,500 for educational assistance (Indigency Program), scholars will now receive P5,500 and P3,000 respectively.

To avail the scholarship grants, for academic scholar, students must have grades on academic subjects not lower than 90% of the General Weighted Average for high school graduates and 2.00 for students in college.

On the other hand, educational assistance (Indigency Program) is provided for the needy Bulakeños with a dream to finish studies but are not capable due to poverty. They only need to pass all of their subjects to continuously avail the program.

In addition, all kinds of scholarship can be directly deducted from the tuition of students who are enrolled in Bulacan State University, Bulacan Polytechnic College and Bulacan National Agricultural State College. Parents who do not have enough money will be able to enroll their children by presenting the certification given by the Provincial Administrator’s Office.

The governor said that the application process was made easy so that more Bulakenyos will be able to benefit from the said scholarship program.

“Huwag nating hayaang maging sagabal ang kahirapan sa pag-abot ng mga pangarap,” said Alvarado.

The application for the scholarship program has three steps. First is the evaluation of applicants which starts on the first week of February until the third week of March, wherein students will be given a form to fill out and submit necessary requirements like Barangay Clearance, Form 137, and letter to the governor among others. Second, is the examination to test the applicants’ academic skills and the third and final step is the interview.

At present, this school year’s applicants are in the process of evaluation and submission of requirements; and are expected to add up in the growing number of PGB scholars which is 8, 244.###
