CITY OF MALOLOS – Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado assured to continuously monitor and properly disseminate information to ensure that the Pantawid Pasada Card, a project of President Benigno Aquino III under the Public Transport Assistance Program (PTAP) will be fairly distributed to 15,000 Bulacan jeepney drivers who are legitimate franchise holders.

This is the governor’s statement on a press conference held before the formal card registration and distribution at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium yesterday, May 30.

Usec. Jose Layug Jr. of the Department of Energy (DOE) said PTAP aims to provide aid to transportation sector with its initial fund of P450 million. The said card is loaded with P1,050 that can be used to buy diesel or gasoline from the accredited gasoline stations all over the country.

Upon receipt, the card may be used after five days to six months, depending if the driver will use the said card to buy gasoline in full or in retail. Aside from this, it can also be used to avail of other benefits like discounts and promos.

Usec. Layug advised the drivers to keep the card even after use because it may be reloaded in the future in case a same program will be launched, thus prioritizing the legit drivers.

Jun Pereda, president of Panlalawigang Transport or the Bulacan Jeepney Drivers Association, expressed his gratitude on behalf of the organization for the government’s aid and said that they are willing to support the government’s projects.

Meanwhile, the Bulacan Police headed by P/S Supt. Fernando Mendez vows to strengthen the monitoring in jeepney terminals to eradicate the illegal ones.

“Sa mga walang prangkisa, hinihikayat natin na lumagay sila sa legal, para naman kung may mga ganitong pagkakataon, maka-avail din sila nung mga benepisyong para naman talaga sa mga mamamayan,” Alvarado added.

Furthermore, Layug said the tricycle drivers will be the next ones to be given financial aid and the date of release will be announced by their respective municipalities. This was made possible because some part of PTAP funds have already been transferred to local government units which will provide the tricycle drivers and operators with P150 load. ###
