Bulacan celebrates Environment Month
Wednesday, 01 June 2011
CITY OF MALOLOS - Infusing ecological protection with historical heritage conservation, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado will lead the commencement of the Environment Month with the theme “Karikitan ng Kalikasan sa Tahanan ng Tatlong Republika” to be held on June 6, 8 a.m. at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium, this city.

The event will highlight the signing of Bulacan Environmental Code of 2011 by Governor Alvarado.

Bulacan Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO) chief Atty. Rustico de Belen said that this is the first time that Bulacan will have its own provincial ordinance (Environmental Code of Bulacan) that will cater to the salient concerns and system of governance in the protection of the province’s environment and natural resources ever since the Local Government Code was enacted into law in 1991.

Aside from this, members of the Association of the Bulacan Environment and Natural Resources Officers (ABENRO) will also take their oath of duty.

Moreover, included in the schedule of activities for the entire month are the following: Subastahan at Hapunan Para sa Kalikasan wherein selected multi-awarded visual artists will donate their paintings for biddings, Eco-Fashion Show which will showcase dresses made out of recycled materials, Eco-Friendly Market which will involve entrepreneurs who make products out of waste materials, Tanghal Larawan ng Kasaysayan which is a photo essay contest about the various eco-tourism in Bulacan, On the Spot Poster Making Contest which will serve as a venue for students to express their concern to the environment, and province-wide clean up and tree planting.

“Bulacan is blessed not only with the richness of nature but also with the wealth of history and culture that is incomparable to other provinces in the country. Aside from being the haven of various flora and fauna, abundant minerals and natural resources, our province is also the site of the three republics, the Biak na Bato Republic, Kakarong Republic and the Barasoain Republic. All of these need to be protected, conserved and promoted,” the governor said.

The culminating activity will be held on June 30 at the Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center. ###
