CITY OF MALOLOS- The Provincial Government of Bulacan spearheaded by the Provincial Committee for the Welfare of Disabled Persons President and Bulacan Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado expressed its full support to persons with disabilities (PWDs) in lieu to the 33rd National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week with this year’s theme "Making the Rights Real for Filipinos with Disabilities" this July 17-23, 2011.
In accordance to Proclamation No. 1870 of June 1979, the commemoration aims to stimulate public awareness of the problems of disability and encourage every citizen to take active responsibility in the uplifting of the economic and social conditions of the disabled members of our society.
“Layunin rin nitong makapagbigay kamalayan sa kahalagahan ng pag-iwas at rehabilitasyon ng may kapansanan.” added Rowena Joson-Tiongson, head of Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) of Bulacan.
“Persons with disabilities deserve the rights and opportunities that the abled persons enjoy. Let us support the government efforts in the promotion of the accessibility of persons with disabilities towards a barrier-free environment.” Gov. Alvarado said.
NDPR week-long activity line up include hanging of posters and tarpaulins concerning the week-long activity in conspicuous places, medical mission like harelip operation at Baliwag District Hospital, cultural and variety show entitled “Basta’t Bulakenyo Kahit May K, OK” and sports festival to be held at Pampanga Sports Complex.
Moreover, the week-long activity also honors Apolinario Mabini also known as the Sublime Paralytic, a Filipino political philosopher and architect of the Philippine revolution who made a great contribution to the battle of the Philippines for freedom despite his disabilities.###
