Bulacan successfully hosts 1st Rescuelympics

CITY OF MALOLOS – Bulacan successfully hosted the 1st Provincial Rescuelympics, short term for Rescue Olympics in Bulacan, spearheaded by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) held recently.

In line with the celebration of the National Disaster Consciousness Month, the said activity aims to broaden the awareness of Bulakeños on the importance of disaster and emergency preparedness and the ways on how to save lives and properties.

“Nais natin na mas maraming Bulakenyo ang magkaroon ng pagsasanay ukol dito dahil sa naiiba na ang panahon ngayon, para naman kung sakaling may emergency, sa kani-kanilang mga bayan pa lang handa na sila at hindi na magiging malaki ang pinsala” Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy Alvarado said.

Fourteen towns including Marilao, Sta. Maria, Balagtas, Calumpit, Hagonoy, San Ildefonso, Guiguinto, Pandi, San Rafael, Obando, Doña Remedios Trinidad, Pulilan, Norzagaray and Bulakan and the three cities of Meycauayan, Malolos and San Jose del Monte participated on the said rescuelympics with 10-12 members per group.

After a day of competition, the City of Meycauayan was hailed the champion, while the municipalities of Sta. Maria and Marilao got the first and second places respectively, wherein they all receive plaques of recognition, fire hose, trauma kit and life vests.

Moreover, the champion also took home additional set of fire suits and portable radio while the first placer got additional set of fire suits.

Also, special awardees have been give plaques of appreciation wherein San Rafael was awarded Best in Fire Suppression, Sta. Maria for Best in Bandaging and Transfer Relay, City of Meycauayan for Best in Situational Analysis and Application Focus on Water Safety and Rescue and BLS-CPR and Best in Situational Analysis and Application Focus on Bleeding Control, Bandaging and Immobilization was given to Bulakan.

According to Felicisima Mungcal, head of PDRRMO, the Rescuelympics was conducted after the successful six-day training of First Aid, Basic Life Support-Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (BLS-CPR), Water Safety and Fire Suppression in Club Royale last July 13-20 also in this city. ###
