First oncology unit in Bulacan offers free medical treatment for cancer patients
Friday, 22 July 2011
CITY OF MALOLOS- As part of Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado’s commitment to improve and expand the medical services offered by the Bulacan Medical Center (BMC), the Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB) will inaugurate the first oncology unit of BMC on Monday, July 25, 2011 at 8 in the morning, this city.

The said medical unit will provide free medical treatment for cancer patients.

“The oncology unit will have three oncologists or cancer specialists that will attend to the medical needs of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.” Gov. Alavarado said.

Dr. Florante Tuazon, provincial health consultant, said that the new oncology unit will have cancer specialists for children and adults and will also conduct therapy for out-patients.

With six lazy boy chairs, the said unit located on the 3rd floor of the BMC can accommodate at least 18 cancer patients a day.

“Hindi na kailangan pang dumayo sa Maynila o gumastos pa sa pribadong ospital dahil meron na tayong unit dito mismo sa ating lalawigan.” said Dr. Protacio Bajao, head of BMC.

Prior to the new oncology unit, the PGB inaugurated last year the hemodialysis center, also located at BMC.

The said center is loaded with 10 dialysis machines and other equipment to ensure that more Bulakeño patients will benefit from its services.

“May kamahalan ang bayad ng nagpapa-dialysis subalit bilang malaking tulong ng pamahalaan, maliit lang ang magigiging gastos ng pasyente dito na nagkakahalaga ng P1,400,” the governor said.

Moreover, a fifty percent subsidy will also be given to indigent patients wherein they will only pay P700 per session and if the patient is a Philhealth member, the expenses will be covered by it.

Aside from this, the PGB is also improving the medical facilities and services of the district hospitals in the province. ###
