Saturday, 06 August 2011
CITY OF MALOLOS – Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado will again join top officials of San Miguel Beer Brewery (SMB) Inc. in the second annual national tree planting along the riverbanks of the Bustos auxiliary dam in Brgy. Laog, Angat this coming Saturday, August 6, 2001 at 7 am to further the cause for the conservation of the environment.

Aiming to create public awareness on pressing environmental issues for the protection of the various river systems in Bulacan, the said endeavor will gather over more than700 participants from the local government units of the province and the officials of the number one beer maker in the country to plant some 5,000 bamboo cultivars.

Furthermore, the project hopes to serve as a vehicle to raise consciousness on relevant issues affecting the people’s lives, particularly people’s awareness on climate change and the little things and ways to alleviate its detrimental effects.

“Through such efforts, little by little, we hope to be able to change the mindset of the people as regards to the environment, so it’s an initial step towards that objective,” Atty. Rustico De Belen, BENRO chief said.

De Belen also emphasized that environment is everybody’s business because it affects us all that’s why everybody must be dedicated in the protection of the environment to lessen the destructive effects of climate change.

Mr. Roberto Huang, president of San Miguel Brewery Inc. will also take time to be a part of the cause and is expected to deliver a speech prior to the planting of bamboo cultivars along the Angat riverbanks.

The bamboo tree planting also deems to promote San Miguel Brewery’s serious efforts to help the protecting, rehabilitating and preserving of our ecosystem.

Last year, the PGB and SMB successfully planted 1,200 seedlings along McArthur Highway in Malolos and watershed areas in the province. ###
