Monday, 22 August 2011
CITY OF MALOLOS- Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado will launch a simultaneous clean-up drive in the province of Bulacan in response to the nationwide anti-dengue drive order of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jesse Robredo last August 17.

Covering all of the municipalities and cities in Bulacan, the said clean-up drive will begin on August 20-21 and August 27-28, 2011.

The drive against the dengue fever-carrier aedes aegypti mosquito aims to lessen the prevalence of mosquito-borne disease in all parts of the country.

Alvarado instructed all the barangay captains of the province including the barangay tanod, barangay health workers and volunteers to participate on the said clean-up operation.

“Aking kinikilala ang tungkulin ng pamahalaan na itaguyod at pangalagaan ang karapatan sa kalusugan ng mga mamamayan at matimo sa kanilang isipan ang mabuhay ng malusog, alinsunod sa Artikulo II seksyon 15 ng Saligang Batas.” Gov. Alvarado said.

Also, Alvarado stressed that all the potential breeding places of the said mosquito should be eradicated to ensure the health and safety of Bulakenyos.

Moreover, according to Robredo’s directive, the said drive should include the dredging of clogged canals, creeks and other waterways in the local areas of jurisdiction.

The local officials were also ordered to trim the bushes, tree branches, remove receptacles containing stagnant water and conduct massive information drive on environmental control of breeding sites.

As of August 13 of this year, the Public Health Office (PHO) reported 3,163 dengue patients in Bulacan. ###
