Bulacan, to commemorate the 113th Anniversary of Malolos Congress

CITY OF MALOLOS- Vice President Jejomar Binay will join local officials of Bulacan in the commemoration of the 113th Anniversary of Malolos Congress on September 15, 2011, 7 a.m. at Barasoain Church as the highlight of the weeklong festivities of Singkaban Fiesta 2011.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado, being at the helm of the commemoration rites, said this year’s program will deepen the awareness of all Bulakenyos regarding the significance of Malolos Congress in the annals of Philippine history.

“The revolutionary congress of Malolos which played a significant role in our country’s struggle for freedom had been established more than a century ago. Still, it’s relevance to our society, and the spirit of democracy should remain in our hearts, and guide us towards the progress of our nation,” said Alvarado.

Aside from the wreathe laying, Dans Pangan, a renowned Bulakenyo artist, will launch his book entitled “Evolution: Barasoain Church” which depicts the evolution of Barasoain church from the year 1859 to 2009.

Other invited guests as observers of this event are the senior citizens, students, teachers, non-government organizations, and other sectors in Bulacan.

The said event is made possible through the joint efforts of the Provincial Government of Bulacan, City of Malolos Government and National Historical Commission of the Philippines.

Afterwards, the annual Dangal ng Lipi Awards which recognizes outstanding Bulakenyos will be held at 5 p.m. simultaneous to the Konsiyerto ng Bulakenyo which will gather the youth in a concert sponsored by Globe Telecom.

Finally, to seal the weeklong celebration of the rich and colorful cultural heritage of Bulacan,
a spectacular fireworks display will brighten the sky. ###
