Thursday, 03 November 2011
City of MALOLOS— After receiving complaints against the Mighty Factory for allegedly causing pollution and posing health hazards to residents of Bgy. Tikay in this city, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado immediately ordered for an inspection and investigation.

Bulacan Environment and Natural Resources Officer Atty. Rustico De Belen said that based on the result of the investigation, traces of ashes was observed on the concrete pavement inside the compound and black smoke was observed emitting from their smoke stack. He also said that the company was also discharging waste water into an irrigation canal of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA).

The BENRO yesterday issued a “Notice of Violation” to the Mighty Corporation.

De Belen advised Dennis Flores, pollution control officer of Mighty Corporation that such actions or emissions are in violation of Article VI, Section 42 (a) of Provincial Ordinance No. C-005, Republic Act 8749 and RA No.9275 (anti-pollution laws).

The BENRO also ordered the management of Mighty Corporation to immediately institute remedial measures to stop the causes of pollution affecting the residents of Bgy. Tikay, and close the pipe leading to NIA irrigation canal right away.

At the same time, the BENRO also ordered Mighty Corporation to pay P5,000 pursuant to Article XIV, Sec.90 of Provincial Ordinance No. C-005.

De Belen said that if the management fails to heed the order, their office will be constrained to recommend the cancellation of the firm’s mayor’s business permit and Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) and Provincial Government Acknowledgement without prejudice to the filing of appropriate administrative case in proper forum.

Residents of the village also sent video footages and pictures to Bulakenyo broadcaster Rommel Ramos, co-host of Gov. Alvarado in the weekly radio program “The Governor’s Hour” aired over DWSS 1494 on the AM band every Saturday morning. ###
