Non-working holiday on February 3 in Bulacan

CITY OF MALOLOS- Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado has declared February 3 a non-working holiday in Bulacan in commemoration of the 85th birth anniversary of the late Gat. Blas Ople.

The said declaration is in accordance to Proclamation No. 323 “Declaring Friday, 3 February 2012, As A Special (Non-Working) Day in the Province of Bulacan” issued by President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino on January 25, 2012.

“Sama-sama nating gunitain ang ika-85 taong araw ng kanyang pagsilang sa pamamagitan ng pagkilala sa kanyang mga di-matatawarang kontribusyon at dedikasyon sa paglilingkod hindi lamang sa ating dakilang lalawigan, kundi sa buong bansa,” Alvarado said.

He also said that the Provincial Government of Bulacan through the Provincial Youth, Sports, Employment, Arts and Culture Office has lined up a series of activities that will begin with an offering of flowers on the Ople monument and a short program to mark the occasion in front of the Gat. Blas Ople Building, Capitol Compound at 8 am.

Ka Blas is popularly known as the “Father of Overseas Employment” and author of the Philippine Labor Code. He held several high ranking positions such as President of the Senate, Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Department of Labor.

He was born in Hagonoy, Bulacan on February 3, 1927 to Felix Antonio Ople and wife Segundina Fajardo and passed away on December 14, 2003 while giving service to the Filipino people. ###
