Bulacan hosts charitable institutions, sports fest
Tuesday, 17 April 2012
CITY OF MALOLOS- More than 800 children from various non-government organizations and residential facilities in Central Luzon will showcase their skills and sportsmanship in the 15th Regional Association of DSWD Licensed and Accredited NGO’s and Institutions (READLANI) Summer Sports Fest to be held on April 18-20 at the Bulacan Sports Complex, Barangay Sta. Isabel in this city.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado, who will serve as the guest of honor, said that it is a great opportunity to demonstrate support to these institutions that work hand-in-hand with the government in providing homes and serving as family to the underprivileged and orphaned youths in the region.

“Bulacan government has always been supportive to the charitable institutions here in our province, and it is an honor to host this year’s READLANI Olympics. We hope that this event will give the children a more positive outlook in life, and help them to build camaraderie with other children from different institutions,” the governor added.

According to Rowena Tiongson, head of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), the event was anchored in the theme, “Batang READLANI, Maasahan sa Palarong Palakasan.”

She added that it will start at 7 a.m. with a motorcade from the Malolos Convention Center to the Bulacan Sports Complex in Barangay Sta. Isabel. Among the activities that will be held are cheering competition, water sports, basketball, volleyball, badminton, track and field, marathon, sepak takraw, scrabble, and a cultural night which will showcase the ethnic dances from each province.

Last year’s sports fest was held at Palayan City, Nueva Ecija where DSWD Home for Girls–Nueva Ecija won the over-all champion for girls division and the Regional Youth and Rehabilitation Center as over-all champion for boys division. The King’s Garden Children’s Home of Orani, Bataan won as the over-all champion. ###
