Bulacan celebrates Disaster Consciouness Month

CITY OF MALOLOS- As part of the disaster preparedness of the Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB), Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado led the kick off ceremony of Disaster Consciousness Month (DCM) recently.

Themed as “Ligtas na Bayan, Maunlad na Pamayanan,” the said celebration aims to elevate the disaster preparedness of the Bulakenyos as well as the substantial information dissemination to the public.

In line with the celebration of DCM, the PGB presents one of its enhancement programs, the rehabilitation of the Marilao, Meycauayan, Obando River System.

With the support and help of the local government and non-government agencies, the campaign for the rehab of MMORS will start this month until next year through simultaneous cleaning, tree planting and patrolling.

According to Felicisima Mungcal, Executive Officer of Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), their office will conduct trainings such as 2nd Bulacan Rescuelympics, disaster management, water safety, fire suppression and radio operation to improve the knowledge and skills of the response teams in Bulacan.

“Bukod sa mga training ay magkakaroon din tayo ng information dissemination sa mga lungsod, bayan, paaralan, government at non-government agencies sa buong lalawigan,” Mungcal added.

Disaster Consciousness Month is in accordance with Executive Order no. 137 signed last August 10, 1999 that aims to give importance to Disaster Risk Reduction and Management programs of the government. ###
