Bulacan gov bags National Sandugo Award

CITY OF MALOLOS- Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado, also the Bulacan Local Blood Council President, was conferred his first National Sandugo Award for Outstanding Local Government Executive yesterday at the Heritage Hotel, Pasay City.

Guests of honor Sec. Armin Luistro of the Department of Education and Department of Health Sec. Enrique Ona awarded the plaque of recognition to all the awardees.

The governor was awarded after accomplishing the criteria such as Personal Involvement and Commitment in the National Voluntary Blood Services Program (NVBSP) which include attendance to Mobile Blood Donation, Advocacy Events in the Promotion of Voluntary Blood Donation, TV appearances, radio talk and meeting, print and web news; Provision of Resources in the Promotion of Voluntary Blood Program including the allocation of 7 million pesos, equipment and vehicle and other necessity in the Blood Center and; being instrumental for the high percentage of voluntary blood donation in his jurisdiction where 1.02 percent of the total eligible population of the province participated.

Based on the records of the Provincial Public Health Office, from the 2,500,000 eligible population of Bulacan, 25,582 donated in the year 2011 where 25,582 units of blood were collected. Among the total donors, 9,862 or 38.4% continue to donate and are called repeat donors.

Also included in the criteria are the Exemplary administrative actions in support of NVBSP such as issuances within the last three years.

Some of these include the Executive Orders No. 05-2010 “Encouraging the Creation of Local Blood Councils in all Municipalities and Cities in the Province of Bulacan” and No. 07-2011 “An Order Creating the Bulacan Blood Council”, and Memorandums like GO-2011-208 “Pakikilahok sa Blood Donation Activity”, PA-2011-545 “ Provincial Blood Donation For A Cause (Give Blood and Save Life), PA-2011-415 “Pagdalo sa 10th Gawad Parangal at Pagkilala kaugnay ng Bulacan Voluntary Blood Donor program at Blood Donors Month”, and PA-2010-608 “Blood-Letting bilang Pagdiriwang ng Buwan ng Kooperatiba”.

Being a blood donor himself, Alvarado emphasized the importance of donating blood.

“Mahalaga ang pag-dodonate ng dugo. Dito sa Bulacan nagkakaroon tayo ng mga blood donation para mapanatili ang pagkakaroon ng sapat na suplay ng dugo ang ating mga blood center at pagamutan, bukod dito maganda din ang naidudulot nito sa mismong nagbibigay ng dugo. Tandaan natin na ang dugo ay buhay at nakapagbibigay ng buhay,” said Alvarado.

Aside from Alvarado, four other Bulakeños were conferred the same award namely Mamerto Servania, Barangay Captain of Bulihan, Plaridel; Raul Gatuz, Barangay Captain of Tabang, Plaridel; Bernardo Medina, Barangay Captain of Tungkong Mangga, City of San Jose del Monte; and the hall of famer Barangay Captain Gerald Constantino of Sta. Ines, Plaridel. ###
