Bulacan, hailed as outstanding province for promoting the welfare of PWDs

CITY OF MALOLOS- Bulacan headed by Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado was awarded as Outstanding Province in Central Luzon for promoting the welfare of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) as part of the celebration of the 34th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week recently.

The recognition was given by Regional Council on Disability Affairs (RCDA) held at Walter Mart, City of San Fernando, Pampanga. This was the first award launched by the said award giving body which aims to recognize local government units, groups, individuals and institutions for their significant contributions and services in the sector of PWDs.

According to the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, being one of the best implementors of PWD’s programs, the Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB) has already issued ID that benefited PWDs. Also, as provided by the law, PWDs can avail discounts on their purchases and medical services.

Further, the PGB has also assigned a designated Disability Affairs Officer, provided accessibility features in the area, passed laws for the welfare of PWDs and allotted budget for PWD programs.

Other awardees were Olongapo as Outstanding City and Mabalacat in Pampanga as Outstanding Town; Raymond Sagum of City of San Fernando was feted the Huwarang Lider ng mga May Kapansanan; Nueva Ecija Association of Persons With Disabilities Cooperatives as Huwarang Proyektong Pang-Komunidad ng mga May Kapansanan; and Floridablanca Association of Persons with Disabilities in Pampanga as Huwarang Samahan ng mga May Kapansanan.

The winners received trophies and cash incentives.

Meanwhile, in line with the celebration, the PGB has successfully held Harelip Operation dubbed as “Ngiti mo, Sagot namin” held at Baliwag District Hospital and Cultural and Variety Show entitled “Basta’t Bulakenyo kahit may K Ok” at SM City, Baliwag, Bulacan.

The third week of July has been designated NDPR Week, by virtue of Proclamation No. 361 in August 2000, as amended by Administrative Order No. 35, dated May 3, 2002. It was originally declared thru Proclamation No. 1870, on June 22, 1978, to recognize Apolinario Mabini, the Sublime Paralytic, whose disabilities did not hinder him from contributing to the Philippine Revolution.###
