Bulacan intensifies its emergency response

CITY OF MALOLOS – In a bid to continuously strengthen the efficiency of rescue/response teams in addressing emergencies in the province, the Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB) thru the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) facilitates three-day Fast Craft Rescue Training on October 9-11, 2012 at the Ipo Dam, Norzagaray, Bulacan.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said the province is incessantly strengthening its disaster preparedness as well as the knowledge and skills of rescuers in using flood rescue boats and other similar life saving vehicles. Participants will also be trained in giving first aid for flood rescue and search and retrieval operations.

Participants of the said training includes rescue/response team members of the City and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Councils, Cities of Meycauayan, Malolos and San Jose del Monte, the towns of Marilao, Santa Maria, Obando, Calumpit, Hagonoy, Pulilan and Norzagaray and non-government organizations.

The rescue teams should be composed of five members who were already trained, had acquired skills in Basic Water Safety, Standard First Aid/Basic Life Support-Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, physically fit and have not yet attended a Fast Craft Rescue Training.

Prior to this, an Angat dam break drill was held in order to help in the planning and management of emergency responses in case massive floods hit the area after a 7.2 magnitude earthquake and may also result to the collapsing of Angat Dam which lies along the West Marikina Valley Fault. ###
