Wednesday, 30 January 2013
CITY OF MALOLOS—Bulakenyos continue to flock the Bulacan Medical Center to avail of the free surgical/medical mission of the Philippine Medical Association (PMA) Medical Mission Foundation of Greater St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.A., that started from January 28 to February 1, 2013.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said that this joint project of the Provincial Government of Bulacan and the PMA Medical Mission Foundation of Greater St. Loius, Missouri which is participated by 50 doctors, is continuously giving medical services including surgery, urology, anesthesia, diabetes and hypertension screening, dental, ophthalmology, plastic surgery and pediatrics to as many indigent Bulakenyos as possible.

“In three days, almost 60 Bulakenyos underwent major surgical operations with the help of the doctors from PMA and hundreds were treated at the OPD, dental and other medical services,” said Alvarado.

Dr. Teresita Sy-Alvarado Castillo, former president of Philippine Medical Association St. Louis, Missouri said that it is their second time to conduct medical mission in Bulacan.

“Five years ago, we had a medical mission in Calumpit where we saw several people who needed medical attention that is why we chose to have it here again in Bulacan. We are so happy and proud to be able to help our fellow Bulakenyos, it is very rewarding,” she added.

Dr. Daniel Fabito, a surgeon, said that this project is also in line with the program of the Department of Health for foreign medical missionaries to adopt a local hospital.

“Even if we are American citizens, we are still Filipinos by heart and soul. We feel that it is our duty to come back and serve our countrymen by providing them quality medical services. It gives us inner satisfaction because a patient’s smile is worth travelling ten thousand miles to the Philippines,” said Fabito.

He also added that they are thankful for the assistance that Governor Sy-Alvarado and Congresswoman Marivic Sy-Alvarado provided to them and that they are planning to come back for another medical mission in Bulacan next year.

The PMA Medical Mission Foundation headed by Dr. Necita Roa also donated free medicines, medical supplies and surgical equipment to Bulacan Medical Center. They also conducted a seminar on the updates on surgery and medicine that made the Bulakenyo doctors and other health workers knowledgeable on the current trend in medical practice. ###
