AFP, PNP, ready for elections in Bulacan
Tuesday, 30 April 2013
CITY OF MALOLOS— Starting on May 4, the full force of joint Bulacan Provincial Police Office (BPPO) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will be deployed to different voting centers.

Provincial Director P/S Supt. Joel Orduña of the BPPO made this statement during the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) meeting at the Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center this morning.

“We are now in the final phase of deploying our troops in our different voting centers in each municipality supported by 238 augmentations from AFP and one company from FSRR,” Orduña said.

He also reported that after implementing the firearms ban, BPPO had accounted a total of 105 high powered and low powered firearms and 76 other items confiscated as of April 29.

He also added that the total crime volume in Bulacan marked a 33 percent decrease or 1, 850 incidents recorded as compared to last year’s report for the same period.

Also, Brigade Commander Lt. Col. Bernardo Oña of the 56th Infantry Battalion warned the council members from those individuals who claim to be from the army asking for financial support.

“May mga tao pong nagpupunta sa mga mayors at mga kandidato na humihingi ng 20 kabang bigas at pera para sa Army, pero hindi po totoo iyon,” explained Oña.

He added that if candidates are requesting for security it must be properly coordinated to the Joint Peace and Security Coordinating Center (JPSCC) which is composed of COMELEC, PNP and the 56th IB and was tasked to address the peace and order concerns in the province.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado added that it is the PPOC’s responsibility to secure a fair and peaceful election in Bulacan.

“Election is part of democracy; it is the voice of the people. Hindi dapat magkaroon ng mga hidwaan dahil hindi rin magiging matagumpay ang gobyerno kung walang pagkakaisa. Kaya dapat tiyakin ng ating kapulisan at army na mabigyan ng karapatdapat na paggalang ang sacredness of ballots. Walang dapat kampihan dito, kailangang laging patas,” the governor emphasized. ###
