Bulacan strenghtens campaign against TB, HIV/AIDS, malaria and other infectious diseases

CITY OF MALOLOS- The Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB) and the Department of Health (DOH) continue to strengthen the battle against tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, malaria and other infectious diseases through the launching of MDG #6: Health Caravan on August 27, 2013, 8 am at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium in this city.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said the Mid-Decade Goal or MDG #6 is one of eight United Nations Millennium Development Goals that aims to combat tuberculosis (TB), HIV/AIDS, malaria, dengue, rabies and leprosy in Bulacan through information dissemination and interactive health education.

According to Provincial Public Health Officer Jocelyn Gomez, six educational booths will showcase interactive health education on prevention and control of the said diseases which will be spearheaded by health partners, government and non-government offices in Bulacan. The said booths will open at 10:30 am to 3:00 pm for viewing and will be attended by more or less 500 invited participants, guests and walk-in audience.

The provincial public health officer added that simultaneous with the opening of booths are HIV/AIDS voluntary testing and counseling, TB education and exhibit information dissemination in the Bulacan Provincial Jail.

As for rabies awareness campaign, Provincial Veterinary Office head Dr. Voltaire Basinang said there will also be dog neutering and immunization.

Prior to this, an early motorcade will happen at 7:30 am starting at Malolos Sports Complex which will be participated by health partners from Luzon Health, Alay Buhay, Philippine Shell Foundation Inc. (PSFI), PhilHealth, Bulacan Medical Society, PGB, Philippine Information Agency, DepEd, DOH and other provinces in Central Luzon.

The United Nations Millennium Development Goals are goals that UN Member States have agreed to try to achieve by the year 2015. Signed in September 2000, it commits world leaders to combat poverty, hunger, disease, illiteracy, environmental degradation, and discrimination against women. ###
