CITY OF MALOLOS – Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado reported in his State of the Province Address or SOPA held at the Bulwagang Senador Benigno S. Aquino Jr. inside the Capitol Building on July 2, 2013 the accomplishments of the Provincial Government of Bulacan during his first term as the provincial chief executive in terms of improving the quality of education in the province.

Alvarado said that one of his goals is to give equal opportunity to all the Bulakenyo youth to have quality education to prepare them for their future.

“Nakapagpatayo tayo ng extension campuses ng Bulacan Polytechnic College sa mga bayan ng San Rafael at Pandi, gayundin, nakapagpapatayo tayo ng mga karagdagang gusali sa BPC-Bocaue, BPC-San Miguel, at BPC-Obando upang matugunan ang dumaraming bilang ng mag-aaral at upang mas mapaganda ang serbisyong pang-edukasyon,” the governor said.

Alvarado also shared in his report that the PGB has built 366 public school buildings with 972 total number of classrooms which costs more than P898 million. This made the classroom: pupil ratio lower from the standard 1:45 to 1:41 ratio.

The PGB also constructed facilities in 46 public schools including covered courts, school grounds, school fences, comfort rooms, covered walks, home economics buildings, among others which costs P90 million.

As a whole, the PGB spent over P 989 million for the improvement of public schools.

The province also hired additional 463 teachers under the Special Education Fund to address the teachers’ shortage.

“Namahagi din tayo ng mga back bag, lunch box, at iba pang kagamitan sa mga mag-aaral ng day care bilang tulong na din sa pagsisimula ng mga batang ito,” said Alvarado.

He added that through the “Tulong Pang-Edukasyon…Gabay ng Bagong Henerasyon!” scholarship program, the PGB has granted financial assistance amounting to P102.55 million from 2010-2011 second semester to s.y. 2012-2013 to more than 7,000 Bulakeño scholars.

Alvarado also gladly reported that through the coordination of the PGB with the Bulacan State University, 869 inmates were given the opportunity to study under the Kalinga Tungo sa Bagong Anyo ng Buhay Program and 67 of them already passed the National Acceleration and Equivalency Examination administered by the Department of Education and are now qualified to enroll in college. ###
