Bulacan hosts lay forum on kidney disease prevention and medical outreach program

CITY OF MALOLOS – In celebration of the National Kidney Month this June, the Provincial Government of Bulacan thru its Public Health Office will host a lay forum on renal health and disease prevention and medical outreach on June 13, Thursday, 8:00 am to 5pm at Bulacan Medical Center and Capitol Gymnasium in this city.

With the theme “Malusog na Bato, ‘Yan ang Gusto Ko!”, the event was made possible by the National Kidney Transplant Institute (NKTI), Renal Disease Control Program (REDCOP) with the Department of Health, Philippine Society of Nephrology, Provincial Health Office and the Philippine Information Agency.
Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said the forum aims to raise people’s awareness on renal health care and prevention of kidney infections. He reminds every Bulakenyo to live a healthy lifestyle to prevent the said silent disease because once the kidneys are damaged, it is already life threatening.

From 8 am to 12 noon, a lecture forum on Renal Health promotion and free medical checkup with patients who have undergone pre screening from June 1 to 12 will be held at the BMC.

In the afternoon, from 1 pm to 5 pm, a lecture discussion will also be held at the capitol gym before 200 nursing students from BSU, 200 health care personnel including BHW, media and other walk in participants.

Alvarado added that one should take care of their kidneys and have a regular check up particularly urine test which is the cheapest and simplest way of testing if the kidneys are in good condition.

According to medical expert, the main risk factors for developing kidney disease are diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular (heart and blood vessel) disease, and a family history of kidney failure. ###
