3,000 Bulakenyos to benefit in housing program
Tuesday, 01 October 2013
CITY OF MALOLOS – Three thousand housing units will be ready for occupancy for Bulakenyos who are living in high risk danger zones as part of the housing program of the Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB) and the National Housing Authority at Barangay Catacte, Bustos and Barangay Cacarong Matanda in Pandi.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said that they will be holding a ceremonial turn-over at the Bustos Relocation Site, Barangay Catacte, Bustos on October 3, at 10 a.m. to the 72 families who will be the first batch to be relocated from the towns of Pulilan, Bustos and Norzagaray.

“These informal settlers are living in geo-hazard areas such as along river banks, streams, waterways and canals which are prone to flood, landslides and mudslides. We would like to provide them a safe and decent housing with basic amenities like schools, livelihood programs, and a multi-purpose hall,” said Alvarado.

He added that the PGB had conducted necessary guidelines in the implementation of the relocation of these informal settlers.

“We have prepared two sites, one is in Barangay Catacte in Bustos where 1,100 families will be relocated; and another in Cacarong Matanda in Pandi where 1,900 families will be welcomed in their new homes,” the governor added.

The provincial chief executive also added that aside from giving them a modest housing, the program also aims to remove the structures or houses that cause clogging of waterways which results to flooding.

Among the towns that will benefit from the Angat Riverbank Settlements are Baliwag, Bustos, Norzagaray, Plaridel, Pulilan, San Rafael, Hagonoy, Calumpit, Angat and Paombong. ###
