Hiyas ng Hagonoy Folkloric Dance Group wins big in Indakan sa Kalye 2016

CITY OF MALOLOS – Top street dancers of Hagonoy has stolen the championship title of Bulacan’s Best of the Best Street Dancers from the town of Guiguinto after showcasing a remarkable performance of Desposorio Festival which stunned thousands of dance enthusiasts in the “Indakan Sa Kalye 2016 Grand Showdown Competition” held at Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium in this city, Wednesday afternoon.

With thematic cultural dance routines and colourful costumes that depicted their town’s festival, the Hiyas ng Hagonoy Folkloric Dance Group toppled other nine contingents and took home cash prize worth P100,000 and trophy as first place in the annual dance competition.

The said dance troupe also awarded as the Best Street Dance and received additional P5,000 cash prize.

“All of the dance troupes that participated this year showed great dancing talents that manifested our province’s local festivities. They have prepared well to give us a wonderful friendly competition as well as to bring entertainment in the weeklong celebration of Singkaban Festival,” Provincial History, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office Head Dr. Eliseo Dela Cruz said.

The last year’s champion in the said dance competition, the Cherubim Montessori School Dance Troupe from Guiguinto secured the second place with their Halamanan Festival and received cash prize worth P70,000 and trophy while the Carlos Gonzales High School Dance Troupe from San Rafael with their depiction of Angels Festival bagged the third place and took home P40,000 cash prize and trophy.

The third placer also received the Best Costume award with P5,000 cash incentive.
Dance troupes that also showcased outstanding performances including Polytechnic College of Meycauayan with Suguran Festival, San Felipe High School Dance Troupe with Salubong Festival and Santa Maria National High School with Santa Maria Festival were all awarded with consolation prizes worth P10,000 each with certificates of recognition.

Meanwhile, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado congratulated the winners and commended the efforts of schools and local government units for supporting cultural dance troupes that continue to preserve Bulacan’s diverse culture and traditions through the art of dancing.

The annual dance competition, which is one of the highlights of the weeklong celebration of Singkaban Festival 2016, was made possible through the efforts of the Provincial History, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office.
