CITY OF MALOLOS - Bulacan Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado clarified that Malolos Republic is not only for the people of Malolos but for all Filipinos during the commemoration of the 119th Anniversary of the First Philippine Republic held at the historic Barasoain Church in this city.

He said that although it is widely known as Malolos Republic, the revolutionary congress is known as the Malolos Congress and the constitution of the said congress is known as Malolos Constitution. It should be clear that it is for the benefit of the whole country just like the proclamation of the independence in Kawit, Cavite that was not only meant for Caviteños but for all Filipinos.

The governor also said that if every day will be a day of cooperation among Filipinos to continuously liberate our country and do the right things, we can still reach the realization of our dream for the Philippines, which is to progress and be truly free.

Meanwhile, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Assistant Secretary for Human Resource and Special Concern Marjorie N. Jalosjos, who represented DILG Undersecretary Eduardo Año as the guest speaker, said that the courage, concern and unity of our ancestors along with their burning love for the country made the Filipino race known to the world.

Moreover, Congressman Jose Antonio R. Sy-Alvarado also announced that some senators including Senators Aquilino Pimentel III, Joel Villanueva, Loren Legarda, Grace Poe, Nancy Binay, Vicente Sotto, Joseph Victor Ejercito, Richard Gordon and Miguel Zubiri have already shown their support in the bill to make January 23 a national holiday.

Inaugurated on January 23, 1899, the Malolos Republic proved that Filipinos were capable of standing on their own and deserved the freedom after more than 300 years of colonial bondage and led to earning recognition from other nations.
