CITY OF MALOLOS — The Department of Agriculture (DA) brought additional knowledge in the field of agriculture for the farmers and fishermen from the different provinces in Region 3 who attended the Information Caravan held at Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium in this city recently.

Anchored on the theme “Agrikultura para sa Pagbabago”, the program aims to highlight the modernization in the agricultural sector; encourage the farmers to plant hybrid rice; to adapt with the modern technology; to use machineries to ease their burden in planting and harvesting; and also to lessen the labor cost which will result to higher yields and revenue.

According to Assistant Director Chief Adora Rodriguez of DA- Agriculture and Fisheries Information Division (AFID), the farmers who attended this program of DA are fortunate because they brought experts from PhilRice to teach hybrid technology, speakers from Survival Recovery Assistance Program (SURE) and Production Loan Easy Access (PLEA), and technology experts.

“So, ito po ang purpose ng ating Information Caravan, we want to bring closer to you the programs of the government sa mga farmers at fishermen para po mas alam po ninyo ang dapat niyong gawin,” said Rodriguez.

Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said that the Philippines is rich in natural resources and human resources and labeled the farmers and fishermen as heroes because of their huge role in the daily lives of every Filipino.

“Ang tunay na pagbabago ay hindi lamang umiikot sa pagbabago ng repormang nilikha para sa pagbabago ng sistema, kundi lalo’t higit sa pagpapalakas sa kawani ng sektor pang-agrikultura at pagpapahalaga sa mga magsasaka,” Alvarado said.

Meanwhile, Regional Manager Lilian Aguilar of Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation Region 3 explained to the attendees the steps to follow in case calamities, pests and other phenomena destroy their crops and products.

“Nandiyan ang SURE o Survival Recovery Assistance Program na nagbibigay ng emergency at recovery loan na nagkakahalagang P50,000 na maaaring bayaran sa loob ng tatlong (3) taon ng walang interes o ang PLEA o Production Loan Easy Access na nagbibigay din ng tulong sa mga magsasakang sinalanta ng kalamidad o peste,” Aguilar explained.

As the program ends, Adele Gomez of Riceposible Campaign of DA encouraged the farmers to have confidence; use technology; and to coordinate with concerned authorities to reach the goal of the campaign which is to have sufficient rice for the Filipinos.
