CITY OF MALOLOS- In one with the country, the Provincial Government of Bulacan through the Bulacan Provincial Blood Center observes Blood Donors’ Month this July and continues to seek for volunteers who are willing to help by donating blood.

Governor Daniel R. Fernando invited all able Bulakenyos to voluntarily donate blood, which can do good not only to others but also for themselves.

“Ang dugo ay mahalaga sapagkat ito ay pangdugtong ng buhay sa ating mga kababayang may sakit na nangangailangan ng dugo, at maganda din ito sa katawan dahil nababawasan ang risk of heart disease at cholesterol at marami pang iba. Ito ay simpleng gawain pero malaki ang nagagawang tulong,” Fernando said.

According to statistics, the Blood Center conducted 245 Mobile Blood Donation that gathered 20,830 bags of blood from 26,766 blood donors and served up to 16,502 patients in 2018, while 130 Mobile Blood Donations (MBD) were conducted with 13, 247 units collected from 12,154 blood donors and served 9,741 patients in the first two quarters of 2019.

Dr. Jocelyn Gomez said that the province targets to have 1% or 32,000 blood donation per year and that to be a blood donor, one must weigh 110 lbs or 50 kgs and 18 years old and above, but for under 18 years old, they must have parental consent and most importantly, a healthy body.

She added that possible donors will not be permitted to donate blood permanently if they are people with cancer, heart disease, hepatitis B and C, HIV infection-AIDS or Sexually Transmitted Disease, chronic alcoholism and people who are involved in “high-risk occupation” such as prostitutes.

This program aims to build strong public awareness with regard to quality and safe blood.
